Visita Iglesia: More Fun in the Philippines

Holy Week is the time of the year here in the Philippines where aside from reflecting and commemorating the last week of Lent in preparation for the Easter, people also look back at the history of the country. Visita Iglesia (Church Visit), one important Holy Week tradition in the Philippines is a common practice which started back in the 70's. People, especially Catholic devotees, hop from church to church to pray and recite all fourteen stations of the cross.

Visiting different churches in the Philippines will make you realize how rich the Filipino culture is. Each church is different and all have their own unique history. Though the years, the Visita Iglesia has evolved into a more open and sensitive tradition. That despite our differences in beliefs, everyone is welcome to enter and seek fortress in the house of God.
